SDSC Technology Forum: Spinning up a Virtual, World-Class Supercomputer using Cloud Computing

May 28 @ 9:00 am - 10:00 am

PRESENTATION download: HERE

In November 2019, SDSC researchers Frank Wuerthwein and Igor Sfiligoi marshaled the resources of multiple commercial cloud computing providers to assemble a massive virtual supercomputer to solve a real world, multi-messenger astronomy computing problem. The computing run over a weekend utilized almost 52,000 graphics computing units (GPUs) to achieve computational scale rivaling the world’s most powerful supercomputers. Bring your own coffee (BYOC) and join us to hear about this achievement and what it portends for the future of supercomputing. Please register for webinar details.

Presenters: Frank Wuerthwein and Igor Sfiligoi, SDSC/UC San Diego
